Dive Insight:
Yesway’s recent burrito promotions began last September when it announced that Allsup's burritos — which were founded in New Mexico in 1974 — were turning 50. Since then, the company has made its burritos available for online delivery, offered an exclusive Black Friday discount for online orders and launched a buy-one get-one deal for National Burrito Day in April.
Yesway’s pepperoni pizza burrito is a continuation of the 50th anniversary celebration, according to the announcement.
"We are thrilled to introduce the new Pepperoni Pizza Burrito to our Allsup's Burrito fans and loyal customers," Chairman, President and CEO of Yesway Tom Trkla said in the announcement.
Besides pepperoni pizza, other Yesway and Allsup’s burrito types include chile relleno-style hatch green chile, shredded beef Chimichanga and beef and bean varieties. Each type is handmade with slow-cooked beans, beef, cheese and a special blend of spices.
Yesway has said that Allsup’s was the first convenience store retailer to offer deep fried burritos. Today, the company sells 27 million burritos annually, according to its website.
Founded in 2015, Fort Worth, Texas-based Yesway operates 435 convenience stores across nine states in the Midwest and Southwest.
