Dive Brief:
- Weigel’s has added a $6 combo menu to its foodservice options, the company announced on Tuesday.
- The seven different combos include options across all dayparts, like breakfast sandwiches, pizza or roller grill items, along with a variety of beverages.
- Weigel’s sees its menu not only as a challenge to QSRs, with whom it competes for meal traffic, but also as a way to appeal to more value-focused shoppers.
Dive Insight:
Weigel’s tied its new value menu to the holiday season, which can be particularly tight for some customers. More people feel financial insecurity in December than in any other month, according to data from PYMNTS and LendingClub.
“Especially during the holidays, we know every dollar counts,” said Doug Yawberry, president of Weigel’s.
The seven combos include a sausage biscuit, donut and medium coffee; a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit and 12 ounce Red Bull; two slices of breakfast pizza and a 20 ounce Pepsi; a chicken biscuit and 11 ounce Tropicana juice; two slices of pizza with a 20 ounce Coke; a hot dog, Doritos and a 20 ounce Aquafina; or two roller grill items, Better Day Chips and a medium fountain drink.
“As more customers turn to convenience stores for their meals, we’re focused on delivering the same quality and satisfaction they expect from a QSR, at a fraction of the cost," Yawberry said.
Weigel’s has boosted its foodservice program in multiple ways during 2024, including building a 110,000-square-foot commissary in Loudon, Tennessee, and adding smash burgers to the menu.
Weigel’s operates 82 c-stores in Tennessee, along with a bakery and dairy.
