Dive Insight:
Labor continues to be a pressing concern across the U.S. and especially in the c-store industry, and Weigel’s is using this program to enhance its company culture.
"It's about creating a culture where every team member feels valued and motivated to bring their best to work every day," said Jessica Starnes, director of loyalty at Weigel's, in the announcement.
Employees receive discounts on food and gas purchases at the company’s 79 convenience stores as well as “exclusive discounts and offers at select local businesses,” the company said. They can also win prizes and experiences like a cruise via special sweepstakes and can use points — they earn 1,000 of per week and can further accumulate points via fuel and in-store purchases at Weigel’s — to select rewards from a catalog, a company spokesperson said in email.
Employees will also receive a free item from one of Weigel’s vendors every week throughout the summer.
The company’s employee benefits package includes health care, same-day pay, a 401(k) program and a pension, according to the company website.
"We deeply value the hard work and dedication of our team members, and MyWeigel's Employee Rewards is our way of showing gratitude for their ongoing commitment," said Doug Yawberry, president at Weigel's, in a statement.
Knoxville, Tennessee-based Weigel’s, which was established in 1931, operates 79 c-stores across its home state, in addition to a dairy and bakery.
