Wawa will open its first Alabama store on April 25, according to multiple news outlets, as the company’s years-long growth plan is beginning to bear fruit.
A report from al.com noted that the store at 18968 Greeno Road in Fairhope, Alabama, will officially be the state’s first Wawa c-store. That will be followed later in the year by stores at 7095 Cottage Hill Road in Mobile and 21022 Alabama Route 59 in Robertsdale.
Grand openings at Wawa locations typically begin with the doors opening at 8 a.m. and a ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m., according to the company website.
The convenience retailer has made numerous announcements over the past few months about the state of its far-reaching expansion plans. Since the start of the year, land for one of its first Indiana locations has been cleared and the company officially broke ground for the beginning of its Georgia expansion. Additional work on approvals is being done as the retailer also plans to open stores in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Also this year, Wawa opened its first modular drive thru with more planned. These stores, which are largely fabricated off site and then assembled over the course of a few days, could give Wawa a faster way to go to market in some locations.
In addition to expanding its footprint, the company has also stepped into the world of retail media, debuting its Goose Media Network at the end of February. The new offering allows brand partners to create custom ads for the company’s website and mobile app, as well as via videos at the pump.
Wawa operates over 1,000 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington D.C.
