Dive Brief:
- Stinker Stores has refreshed its mobile app with several new features, according to a company announcement.
- The app officially launched on Sept. 17, CEO Nate Brazier said via LinkedIn. Many of the app’s new features — such as mobile pickup and delivery — revolve around the company’s Pete’s Points loyalty program, Stinker said in its announcement.
- This continues a busy past year and half for Stinker’s technology efforts. Since early 2023, the retailer has deployed a virtual point-of-sale system and a mobile customer feedback system in its stores, as well as boosted its loyalty program with customization and AI elements.
Dive Insight:
Last summer, Brazier said in an interview that Stinker was focused on competing with quick-service restaurants. The launch of its new mobile ordering capabilities with delivery and pickup through the app signify the next step in that journey.
Launched in 2021, Stinker’s Pete’s Eats program includes breakfast sandwiches, pepperoni and sausage pizzas, cheeseburgers and beef and pork burritos. Customers can also purchase various candies, jerky, nuts, chips, bottled water and more from the Pete’s Eats private label line.
Over 85% of Stinker’s 100-plus convenience stores now offer mobile ordering for pickup and delivery through the app, according to the announcement. Additionally, 70 locations now offer mobile pickup and delivery specifically for cigarette and other tobacco products, while 50 stores do so for beer and wine.
Beyond delivery and pickup, the new app features “Punch Clubs,” which reward customers with a 10th free item after they’ve purchased nine similar products, and “Power Punch Clubs,” which do the same but for a fifth item after buying four similar items.
The app also includes a secondary sign-on feature that allows users to enter their phone number into the store’s POS pin-pad or fuel dispenser in addition to scanning their phones. Features from the old app like gamification and exclusive offers are also in the revamped product.
Several notable convenience retailers have either launched mobile apps or revamped their current ones this year, including RaceTrac, Jiffy Trip, True North Energy, Gas N Wash and Family Express.
Boise, Idaho-based Stinker Stores has more than 100 locations in Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. The Stinker family of companies also includes Arrowrock Supply — a grocery and tobacco wholesaler — and trucking company Westpoint Transportation.
