Stewart’s Shops has partnered with Paradox Brewery to revive its Mountain Brew beer five years after its last batch, the companies announced on Monday.
The new version of the brew is an American adjunct lager that has a light body and crisp, clean flavor, said Devon Hamilton, director of operations for Paradox Brewery.
Mountain Brew’s predecessor, Mountain Brew Ice, had a roughly 10-year run at Stewart’s convenience stores, with mixed results. While some people enjoyed the drink, others were decidedly less laudatory, with one customer saying it tasted “like Motor oil and vinegar.” It was officially discontinued in 2020, while a light version of the beer left the shelves two years earlier.
While the revamped beer will officially reach shelves in early February, early samplers have already had a chance to taste the revitalized take.
“The feedback so far has been phenomenal,” said Emily Close, marketing manager for Paradox. “Mountain Brew has a deep connection to the community and reimagining it has been a true labor of love.”
Regional convenience retailers often bring private beer lines to life with local partners. Pennsylvania c-store companies Sheetz and Rutter’s have launched several seasonal private label beers over the years with local partners.
This partnership brings together two New York companies, with Stewart’s based in Ballston Spa while Paradox Brewery’s headquarters is in North Hudson.
