Dive Brief:
- Sierra Enterprises Oregon, an affiliate of Mukilteo, Washington-based S&S Petroleum, has purchased the convenience retail, consignment retail and fuel distribution assets of Leathers Enterprises, according to a Friday press release.
- The acquisition includes 24 c-stores — nine of which are company owned and 15 of which are managed through dealer consignment agreements — along with six fuel transport trailers. Leathers also offers proprietary and locally licensed branded foodservice at its locations.
- Sierra Enterprises joins a long list of c-store companies engaging in acquisitions in 2023. Most recently, SQRL acquired more than 200 locations in multiple states.

The addition of these 24 locations expands S&S Petroleum’s footprint to more than 100 c-stores in the Pacific Northwest, California and Idaho, featuring partnerships with Marathon, Mobil, 7-Eleven, Arco AM/PM and Shell.
“This acquisition strengthens our commitment to building our presence in the Pacific Northwest while providing exceptional service and value to our customers and partners,” said Rania Dahabreh, president of S&S Petroleum, in the announcement.
Portland, Oregon-based Leathers distributes Shell-branded fuel, as well as gasoline through a commercial fueling network. It also operates a U-Haul franchise.
“We believe S&S values the generational legacy of our Company and will continue Leathers’ long-standing tradition of excellent operations and serving our customers,” said Brent and Kathy Leathers, Leathers’ owners, in the announcement.
Other notable c-store M&A activity this year has included BP’s 281-location acquisition of TravelCenters of America, Majors Management and Alimentation Couche-Tard splitting up more than 300 Mapco stores and Kum & Go merging with Maverik.
Established in 1998, S&S Petroleum owns several private liquor and spirits stores in Washington, according to the company website.
