David Bunch, who has held several leadership positions with Shell over the past two decades, officially took over as head of the company’s convenience and mobility business earlier this month, a Shell spokesperson confirmed.
Bunch, now executive vice president of Shell Mobility, replaced Istvan Kapitany, who announced his resignation back in April after holding the position for 10 years.
When asked to comment on Bunch’s core priorities in leading Shell’s c-store arm, the spokesperson emphasized “performance, discipline and simplification.”
“We will continue to focus on our unique customer, brand, trading and optimization strengths to get the most out of our investments while also working to help our customers across the transport and industry sectors decarbonize,” Shell’s spokesperson said in a statement to C-Store Dive.
In his LinkedIn bio, Bunch notes that he’s now responsible for managing Shell’s global mobility footprint, which includes 47,000 retail fuel sites and c-stores. He also shared that beyond traditional fuel sales and direct and franchised c-store operations, the scope of his role also includes overseeing Shell’s electric vehicle charging network and liquified natural gas production.
Bunch has been with Shell since 2005, when he joined the company as global consumer payment and loyalty manager, according to his LinkedIn bio. He worked his way up to the top of the company, eventually holding the position of chairman for Shell U.K. between 2021 and 2024. Other positions he held over the years include chief marketing officer of retail, as well as vice president of retail sales and operations.
In the U.S., Shell is based in Houston, where it markets fuel at about 14,000 Shell-branded gas stations in 49 states and owns nearly 250 c-stores. Globally, Shell is in the process of selling 1,000 convenience stores by 2026 as a means to reduce its capital expenditures to $3 billion by the end of 2025.
