Dive Insight:
Rutter’s has been beefing up its foodservice through new menu items, technology and even executives as it gears up for its planned addition of 50 stores by 2028.
The convenience retailer introduced online ordering to its website and app roughly a year ago, and named Philip Santini as its senior director of advertising and foodservice in August.
The new subs build on Rutter’s focus on diversifying its offerings. The Italiano includes mortadella, salami and prosciutto, topped with lettuce, tomato, olive oil, vinegar, and Italian seasoning. The Spicy Italiano adds hot pepper relish to the standard Italiano’s ingredients. The Powerhouse Chicken Parm sub is a variation of Rutter’s standard Chicken Parm Sub with marinara, provolone and mozzarella sticks.
"Our customers undeniably favor the Italian flavor profile, and we're committed to fulfilling their preferences by consistently improving our selection with the introduction of new items," Santini said.
York, Pennsylvania-based Rutter’s operates 86 locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. Its expansion plans for the next few years include its first stores in Delaware and Virginia, which the company saw as a “natural progression of the business” according to an email from a Rutter’s spokesperson when the expansion was first announced.
