Dive Brief:
- Rutter’s has launched on-demand delivery through a new partnership with Uber, the company announced on Wednesday.
- Delivery is only available for Rutter’s loyalty members, who can order food, snacks and other products through the c-store retailer’s mobile app. The service is offered through Uber Direct, an on-demand delivery platform that lets businesses take orders through their website, app or phone.
- Rutter’s, which has become popular in the mid-Atlantic for its foodservice program, debuted online ordering last year. Delivery is the logical next step in the evolution of its digital offering, which the company continues to focus on growing.
Dive Insight:
Offering delivery not only lets Rutter’s improve customers’ ordering experiences but, since it’s only available to loyalty members, it may result in a significant boost for its rewards platform. Seamlessly integrating its foodservice program with its loyalty platform and mobile app is a constant focus for the company, Philip Santini, Rutter’s senior director of advertising and foodservice, said in a recent interview.
“We believe in giving customers the best options to get the products they need to get throughout their day,” Chris Hartman, vice president of fuels, advertising and development for Rutter’s, said in the announcement. “Partnering with Uber is another way for them to enjoy our wide variety of options by ordering directly through our mobile app.”
To celebrate the launch of its new program, Rutter’s is offering fee-free delivery for a limited time. All first-time users who download Rutter’s mobile app and sign up for the company’s loyalty program will also receive 10 cents off per gallon of fuel.
Rutter’s menu has included a variety of foods over the years. Its staples include build-your-own sandwiches and bowls, as well as pizzas, burgers, fried chicken and fish, and salads. Over the past year, Rutter’s has gotten creative with items like chicken and waffles, a peanut butter burger, pulled pork fries and a breakfast sandwich with doughnuts as the buns.
York, Pennsylvania-based Rutter’s operates 87 convenience stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. Besides c-stores, the family-owned business has a dairy, a beverage company and a real estate arm.
