Refuel Operating Co. has promoted four leaders to its executive team in recent weeks, according to LinkedIn announcements made by each person.
The promotions include Colleen Barrett, vice president of real estate and development; Kayla Hall, VP of human resources; Weston Pate, VP of loss prevention and risk management; and David Pelton Jr., VP of facilities and environmental.
Barrett, Pate and Pelton all note in their LinkedIn bios that they began their new positions this month, while Hall says she took on her new role in July. Representatives from Refuel did not respond by press time when asked for comment on these executive appointments.
Barrett, who had been Refuel’s senior director of real estate and development since last December, joined the c-store retailer in late 2021 as director of design. She became senior director of design and construction in August 2022. Prior to joining Refuel, Barrett held design and planning leadership roles with c-store equipment builder Merchants Fixture and retailers Dollar Tree and Circuit City.
Hall had been Refuel’s senior director of HR since February. She joined the company in August 2022 as director of corporate training and engagement before advancing into the director of training, compensation and talent acquisition role. Hall was a district manager and area operations coach for six years at Starbucks earlier in her career.
Pate moves to the VP level after spending the past year as Refuel’s senior director of loss prevention and risk management. He joined the c-store retailer in late 2021 as director of loss prevention and risk management before becoming senior director of loss prevention and facilities. He’s also held loss prevention leadership positions with several major retailers, including BJ’s Wholesale Club, Burlington Stores, Sears and Kmart.
Pelton was promoted from senior director of facilities and environment, a role he’s held since last November. He joined the company in late 2022, and has also been Refuel’s regional director of operations, director of operations planning and manager of operations planning. Before Refuel, he spent nearly nine years with Speedway in various marketing and managerial roles, and also had a five-year stint with CVS.
Founded in 2008, Charleston, South Carolina-based Refuel operates 227 c-stores across South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas under the Refuel and Double Quick banners. The retailer is in the midst of growing in many of these states, with several new-builds underway as of earlier this summer.
