Dive Brief:
- QuikTrip opened its first convenience store in Indiana last week, according to a company announcement.
- The store is located in Daleville, a small town about 50 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, and will create about 24 jobs, QuikTrip said. Like most of the retailer’s new stores, the Daleville site features its QT Kitchens food program, which offers both made-to-order and grab-and-go items.
- Indiana marks QuikTrip’s 20th state of operation as the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer continues to grow its c-store network, which currently totals about 1,100 locations.
Dive Insight:
C-Store Dive first reported QuikTrip’s plans to enter Indiana last August. Besides the Daleville site, the retailer is also building a location in Battle Ground, about 67 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
At the time, QuikTrip said the Hoosier State was an “ideal market” for its remote travel centers — the 8,200-square-foot stores that feature QuikTrip’s prepared foods and dozens of fuel pumps — due to the state’s “high-traffic interstate and robust economy.”
The retailer reiterated that message last week at the Daleville store’s grand opening.
“Our travel center will offer a clean and friendly stop for the residents of Daleville and the many travelers in the area, and the QuikTrip team is working hard to ensure our customers enjoy best-in-class service and amenities from day one,” a company spokesperson said in the announcement.
QuikTrip’s top competition in Daleville will be another major retailer that’s entering Indiana for the first time next month. Pennsylvania-based Wawa, one of the most popular c-store retailers in the eastern U.S., is set to open its first Hoosier State store about half a mile from QuikTrip’s latest location.
Besides Indiana, QuikTrip’s nationwide expansion over the past couple of years has included opening its first convenience stores in Ohio and Nevada in 2024, as well as upcoming debuts in Kentucky, Florida and Utah.
