Pilot Company recently named Julius Cox as its chief people officer, a spokesperson from Pilot confirmed by email.
In his new role, which took effect in October, Cox will lead all aspects of human resources and is responsible for attracting, retaining and developing the company’s more than 30,000 team members, according to its website. The role was previously held by Paul Shore, who has moved on to a different company, a spokesperson said.
Cox has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of people and human resources-related roles, according to his LinkedIn page. After working in HR at retailer Neiman Marcus and energy company Shell, he accepted a job as HR business partner and director at utility firm Dynergy in 2001. He spent more than 17 years at that company, taking on a variety of roles, including vice president of human resources and business services, in which he managed integration of more than a dozen contemplated or completed acquisitions and led the company’s executive compensation strategy, among other duties.
His final role before leaving Dynergy was as executive vice president and chief transformation officer, in which he led four cross-functional teams. From there, he worked with several other power companies before landing at Pilot.
In his first few weeks with Pilot, Cox has met with the company’s team in its headquarters of Knoxville, its store team members in Carmel Church, Virginia, and its drivers, according to a post on his LinkedIn page.
“Over two decades ago I began my career in retail and I'm excited to again be part of an industry that focuses on serving people and delivering exceptional guest experiences,” Cox wrote in the post.
