Pilot Company’s electric vehicle charging partnership with General Motors Energy and EVgo has reached over 130 locations in more than 25 states, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
This puts Pilot more than a quarter of the way to reaching its target of at least 2,000 charging stalls across 500 locations.
The partnership between Pilot, GM and EVgo began in 2022, and the companies opened their first charging location in 2023. Drivers can use Pilot’s MyRewards Plus app to find charging locations on their routes, according to Pilot’s website. Many sites feature canopies over the chargers or pull-through spots for easier access, as well as chargers that offer up to 350 kilowatts. Drivers with plug-and-charge-compatible cars can also use that feature.
While experts expect EV charging installations at c-stores to slow under the Trump administration, Pilot reiterated its commitment to expanding its charging infrastructure on Tuesday.
The company has millions of dollars worth of approved grants for future EV charging sites through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. This funding will help it build dozens of additional charging locations in several states, according to data from the EV States Clearinghouse, a website developed by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials in partnership with other agencies.
“Our travel centers are uniquely able to fill a need for EV owners who are looking to make the most of their miles,” said Shannon Sturgil, senior vice president of alternative fuels at Pilot, adding that the GM and EVgo partnership “will continue to bring highway-based charging to more regions and routes where this infrastructure is needed.”
