Dive Brief:
- Food and beverage distributor Performance Food Group (PFG) has acquired retail foodservice manufacturer and distributor Orion Food Systems and its subsidiaries (OLM) for an undisclosed amount, according to an announcement from Orion’s parent company, One Rock Capital Partners.
- OLM is known for its numerous pizza brands in addition to other foodservice offerings. Retailers in its network also use its proprietary foodservice optimization solution, RightBytes.
- The acquisition brings PFG — which already operates in over half the U.S. — into South Dakota, where OLM is headquartered and works with several convenience retailers.
Dive Insight:
Since being founded in 1983, OLM has grown both organically and via acquisitions. After developing new food concepts and deploying its RightBytes technology, the company decided this sale was the best step forward, Kurt H. Beyer, partner at One Rock, said in the announcement.
“We believe OLM is well-positioned to capitalize on further growth opportunities in its next chapter as a part of PFG,” Jack Rosenberg, partner for One Rock, said in the announcement.
OLM’s pizza brands include Hot Stuff Kitchen, pcpizza, Paavo’s Pizza and Papa Primo’s. It also offers Day’n Night Bites, which are freezer-to-oven items like calzones and breakfast sandwiches.
Its RightBytes technology aims to help retailers optimize their workflows, reduce waste and drive traffic, according to OLM’s website. The platform offers professional branding and marketing templates, a mobile app, self-ordering kiosks and 24/7 training.
South Dakota c-store retailers such as Get-N-Go, Pump-N-Stuff and Classic Corner Convenience Stores use OLM’s technology, according to its website.
Besides OLM’s foodservice brands and technology, PFG will also get OLM’s manufacturing facilities, which are located in Sioux Falls; Milford, Iowa; and Kimball, Tennessee.
Richmond, Virginia-based PFG’s convenience division serves more than 50,000 customers through 42 distribution centers across the U.S. and Canada. Its turnkey programs for c-stores include Mexican and Southwest QSR Contigo Taqueria; made-to-order and grab-and-go deli Deli 55; fried chicken QSR Perfectly Southern; Red Seal Pizzeria; Tru-Q BBQ; and Vai Fresco frozen pizzas.
