Dive Brief:
- Nouria Energy has acquired H.A. Mapes, a c-store operator and fuel distributor based in Maine, according to an emailed press release on Thursday.
- The acquisition includes 13 locations, nine of which were previously Harry’s branded, as well as a network of dealer locations, a spokesperson confirmed.
- This news comes just days after Casey’s acquired 63 locations from EG America, the U.S. arm of EG Group, and continues a year rife with dealmaking.
Dive Insight:
The c-stores Nouria gains in this deal are mostly in Maine, with one location in New Hampshire, the spokesperson confirmed. Nouria expects the deal to help it streamline operations, maintain strategic focus and drive long-term growth, according to the release.
“The addition of the Harry's brand of convenience stores, the [commission dealer] and [leased wagon] dealers, and the open dealer network to our portfolio, further strengthens our position in the Northeast market."
At the same time, Nouria Energy has arbitrated the purchase of H.A Mapes’ transportation business to Brown Bear Company, according to the press release.
In addition to expanding its network, Nouria has made other enhancements to its business. It unveiled a new mobile app in June that features online ordering and delivery, real-time fuel prices and an enhanced loyalty program. Users can also earn free rewards or discounts on fuel through the app.
This move is the latest in a year full of mergers and acquisitions. While there have been some particularly eye-catching deals, including BP paying $1.3 billion for TravelCenters of America and Maverik agreeing to buy out Kum & Go for an undisclosed amount, there has also been a steady drumbeat of smaller agreements. The latest Casey’s acquisition was one of two deals the chain has made for part of EG America’s footprint, and the ongoing bankruptcy proceedings of Mountain Express Oil mean many of its stores are on the block as well.
Founded in 1989, Worcester, Massachusetts-based Nouria Energy now owns and operates 175 convenience stores throughout New England, as well as more than 55 Golden Nozzle car washes and a wholesale fuels business.
