Dive Brief:
- H&S Energy Products is the first to tap a new partnership between tech firms Ecotrak and Disruptive Technologies to improve its asset monitoring, according to a Friday announcement.
- The partnership integrates wireless sensors from Disruptive Technologies into Ecotrak’s facility management platform, making it easier for c-stores, restaurants and others to monitor temperatures and manage their refrigerators, freezers and heating equipment.
- Disruptive Technologies is no stranger to the convenience store industry. The company partnered with RaceTrac earlier this year to monitor freezers, refrigerators and hot cases at all of its 580 c-stores.
Dive Insight:
As customer expectations rise and labor issues persist, retailers are increasingly turning to technological solutions, including automated temperature monitoring, to improve efficiency and maintain safety.
The temperature sensors bring several benefits, including automated work order creation, which ensures faster repairs when problems arise; enhanced safety, since temperature issues can be caught before perishable items go bad; and time savings, since employees no longer need to manually check equipment temperatures.
This integration can also bring longer-term benefits by tracking machine performance over time, helping optimize maintenance schedules and limit unexpected failures.
The sensors have a 15-year lifespan, according to the announcement.
"H&S Energy is committed to leveraging the latest technology to enhance our operations,” said Fidaa Mohrez, senior director of operational systems at H&S Energy Products, noting that the sensors should bring “significant improvements in efficiency and safety.”
H&S Energy has had a busy 2024. The Orange, California-based company more than doubled its c-store footprint in March when it bought out Andretti Petroleum Group for an undisclosed amount. Then in May, it announced that it was updating its app with a new car wash subscription program in partnership with Liquid Barcodes.
H&S operates more than 250 c-stores under a variety of banners, including Power Market and Extra Mile.
