Dive Brief:
- Vexxil Energy, an energy and fuel service provider in the Gulf Coast region, will open its first convenience stores later this year, the company announced on LinkedIn this week.
- Vexxil’s c-stores will operate under the ExtraMile banner and sell Chevron-branded fuel. The first location is expected to open in the fall.
- This not only marks Vexxil’s entrance into the c-store space, but the continued growth of ExtraMile, which is expanding across the Southeast as it aims to reach 2,000 stores by 2029.
Dive Insight:
Vexxil is expanding into convenience stores through a partnership with 68 Ventures, a development and investment firm that’s also based in the Gulf Coast. Both companies are headquartered in Daphne, Alabama.
While it’s unclear how many c-stores Vexxil is looking to open, each location will feature a made-to-order food program and locally sourced products, according to the announcement.
“These state-of-the-art facilities are designed to serve the Gulf Coast communities with exceptional service, modern amenities, and a focus on meeting the unique needs of local residents and businesses,” Vexxil said in its announcement.
Representatives from Vexxil and 68 Ventures did not respond by press time to a request for more details of the companies’ c-store venture.
Last summer, ExtraMile President Brian Sardelich said in an interview that the retailer, which is co-owned by Chevron and Jacksons Food Stores, aspired to grow its store count from 1,100 locations at the time to 2,000 by 2029. He added that the bulk of these locations would open within three years, with the Southeast being a focal point of the company’s expansion.
