Giant Eagle opened its new headquarters this week, according to a LinkedIn post from the company.
The grocery retailer, which is also the parent company of convenience retailer GetGo Café + Market, has moved into a building just off Interstate 79 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, according to an email from a company spokesperson. The location is about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.
The building will house around 400 workers, according to the LinkedIn post. These workers will be in the new headquarters on some days and in the company’s stores and distribution centers on others.
This sort of work arrangement has grown exponentially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with around 40% of employees in the U.S. working remotely at least one day a week in 2023, according to the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. Many businesses see value in in-person workdays, and companies like Giant Eagle have made sure their offices have amenities to make office days more attractive.
In Giant Eagle’s case, the four-story, 100,000-square-foot building in the Cranberry Woods Business Park that the company is occupying features a gym, walking and jogging trails and a cafeteria.
“We believe that in-person collaboration is vital to grow our business and forge meaningful connections with our customers and each other,” Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman said in a statement when the move was first announced. “Our new headquarters will provide a variety of working and meeting spaces that will foster teamwork and creativity.”
Giant Eagle owns more than 470 grocery stores and more than 260 c-stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.
