Dive Brief:
- GetGo Cafe + Market is offering regular unleaded gas for $2.75 per gallon for customers who use its myPerks Pay Direct or AdvantagePay options June 30 through July 4, according to an emailed press release. Other grades of fuel, including diesel, will be offered at the same-cent discount.
- Both mobile pay programs connect to users’ bank accounts, with myPerks Pay Direct being an improved version of AdvantagePay. Users can use them at the pump, as well as inside most GetGo, Giant Eagle and Market District locations as well.
- This is the first of a series of promotions for users of Giant Eagle’s myPerks Pay Direct platform, which was renamed from myPerks Pay this week. In addition to everyday 30-cent discounts, members will also have access to additional exclusive promotions through the summer.
Dive Insight:
The two mobile payment options are part of GetGo and Giant Eagle’s myPerks loyalty program, which allows customers to earn perks on a variety of purchases at GetGo, Giant Eagle and Market District locations, along with a variety of other brands. The perks can be used for free groceries or gas.
AdvantagePay was launched in 2019, but the improved myPerks Pay was unveiled at the start of 2023, and has been expanding to wider audiences throughout the first half of the year before its recent name change.
The fuel discount is calculated from the list price of regular gas. So if regular gas is $3.40 per gallon, $2.75 would be a 65-cent discount, which can be applied to any type of fuel at the location.
Members using these mobile pay options will also earn extra perks on purchases inside stores beginning July 6.
“At GetGo, our guests are at the center of everything we do,” said Joel Hirschboeck, senior vice president of fuel at Giant Eagle. “This deep discount will allow our neighbors to spend less on fuel and focus more on celebrations with friends and family.”
GetGo’s mobile payments update adds to the handful of initiatives the company has undertaken in recent months. The retailer has recently launched its proprietary electric vehicle charging program, upgraded its coffee offerings, added its first ground-built drive-thru and installed bitcoin ATM machines at some locations.
Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle owns more than 260 GetGo c-stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland and West Virginia. Some locations offer a made-to-order food menu and WetGo tunnel car washes.
