Imraan Patel, chief strategy and business officer, general counsel and company secretary for EG Group, is stepping down, the convenience retailer announced in its Q2 trading update on Friday.
It is not clear when Patel is officially leaving his post. EG Group said it has begun searching for his replacement.
In his role, Patel leads all mergers, acquisitions, divestments and strategic initiatives at EG Group. He also oversees the company’s legal and compliance, health, environment, safety and security and ESG activities, according to his bio on the company’s website.
Patel joined EG Group in 2016 as group general counsel and company secretary. His work included building, overseeing and coordinating EG Group's global legal and governance function and advising the company’s board and shareholders, according to his LinkedIn bio. He added the chief strategy and business officer role to his plate in October 2022.
Patel first qualified as a solicitor in London in 2003. Before joining EG Group, he worked on the legal teams at telecommunications companies Orange and BT Group.
EG Group also updated investors Friday on some of its ongoing divestments as it seeks to further reduce its debt. This included confirming that the sale of its remaining forecourt business to co-CEO Zuber Issa for 228 million pounds is on track to happen in Q4. Issa plans to step down from the company once that deal closes.
