EG America has named Whitney Johnson as its vice president of loyalty and digital commerce, the company announced last week.
This is a new position for EG America, a company spokesperson confirmed via email. In her role, Johnson will fuel growth for the c-store retailer through its digital presence and loyalty programs, according to the announcement.
Johnson recently founded Capstone Growth Advisors, a consulting firm focused on the CPG, e-commerce and retail sectors. That company helps start-ups entering new retail channels use AI and predictive analytics to boost their business, according to Johnson’s LinkedIn biography.
Before launching that business, Johnson spent three years as general manager of merchandising for grocery delivery company Gopuff, where she built out and led its category management, revenue growth management and private label segments, according to her LinkedIn page.
Johnson developed c-store expertise prior to that, working for three years as director of merchandising strategy for Murphy USA and nine years across a number of merchandising roles — including senior category manager for center of store — with Sunoco.
“We are excited to have Whitney join EG America,” said Brian Ferguson, EG America’s chief marketing officer. “She brings the breadth and strength of experience we need in loyalty marketing, merchandising, and digital commerce strategies to propel the business forward.”
Johnson isn’t EG America’s only recent management shift. The company made Lisa N’Chonon its CFO in June, after she spent nearly a year serving as interim CFO. At the same time, the company also appointed Laura Sherman as its general counsel.
Parent company EG group also recently announced leadership changes, with co-CEO Zuber Issa revealing he will step down from his role later this year after buying the company’s U.K. forecourt business. His departure will leave his brother and current co-CEO, Mohsin Issa, as the sole CEO.
Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group currently has more than 5,500 c-stores across the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Europe and Australia. EG America has more than 1,500 stores and 18,000 employees in the U.S. under a variety of banners, including Cumberland Farms, Loaf N’ Jug and Turkey Hill stores.
