EG America has named Lisa N’Chonon as its chief financial officer and treasurer, a company spokesperson confirmed on Monday. Additionally, the company appointed Laura Sherman as its general counsel.
These promotions took effect “a few weeks ago,” according to the spokesperson.
Prior to this promotion, N’Chonon had been serving as the retailer’s interim CFO for 11 months, since former CFO and interim president Caroline Taitelbaum left the company. In this position, she leads “all aspects” of EG America’s finance organization, which includes accounting, FP&A, tax and treasury, and risk management, according to the spokesperson.
Before becoming interim CFO, N’Chonon served as chief accounting officer and vice president of accounting operations for EG America. She joined the company after working for nearly three years as director of financial reporting for Cumberland Farms, which EG America bought in 2019, according to her LinkedIn bio.
Sherman, meanwhile, had been serving as interim general counsel for roughly a year before officially being named to the role. She is in charge of EG America’s legal department, “including litigation, contracts, records management, retail licensing and compliance, and regulatory matters,” said the spokesperson.
Her previous roles with EG America include VP and assistant general counsel, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also joined the company through its acquisition of Cumberland Farms, having been with the Massachusetts-based retailer for seven years before the merger. She served as corporate counsel and then senior corporate counsel for Cumberland Farms.
2023 was a complicated year for EG America’s leadership. In fall of 2022, former company President George Fournier announced his departure, citing health reasons. Taitelbaum, who was CFO at the time, stepped into the role on an interim basis, before leaving in July 2023 and turning the reins over to Nick Unkovic, chief legal and administrative officer for EG America at the time. All told, it took nearly a year for EG America to decide on John Carey as CEO and president.
Unkovic, meanwhile, stepped into the chief strategy and transformation officer role earlier this year according to his LinkedIn profile.
Parent company EG group announced earlier this month that co-CEO Zuber Issa would be stepping down from the company later this year after he acquires EG Group’s forecourt business in the U.K., as well as certain standalone foodservice locations, for 228 million pounds. EG Group also named Russell Colaco as its new chief financial officer after incumbent Michael Bradley decided to leave the company.
Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group currently has more than 5,500 c-stores across the U.S., U.K. and Ireland, Europe and Australia. EG America is EG Group’s largest operation globally, with 1,500-plus sites across 10 banners in 30 states, including Cumberland Farms, Fastrac, Kwik Shop and Tom Thumb.
