Casey’s General Stores announced last week that it has provided support for a documentary following the lives of three storm chasers.
The film, “Weather Women: Into the Bear’s Cage,” examines the personal and professional struggles of Jessica Moore, Tori Jane Ostberg and Jennifer Watson during the course of one storm-chasing season in the Midwest. The story begins at this year’s National Storm Chaser Summit, which took place in February in Overland Park, Kansas.
The announcement didn’t note the extent of Casey’s support for the project, though the documentary’s f website states the chain helped fund travel for the crew.
“We’re here to fuel the adventure of storm chasing season across Casey’s Country,” said Katie Petru, Casey’s director of PR and communications, in a statement.
As it looks to burnish its brand throughout the Midwest region where it operates around 2,900 stores, Casey’s has invested in other non-traditional marketing opportunities. Last year, the company announced it had purchased naming rights to a sports arena in Des Moines, Iowa. The stadium, currently known as Wells Fargo Arena, will become the Casey’s Center on July 1.
