Dive Insight:
Casey’s new internal career fairs program isn’t the only way the c-store retailer is promoting its value proposition for current and prospective employees. The company has also added a new section to its website that outlines the standard career path of a store-level employee.
Each section addresses what one of the store-level position requires on a daily basis. It lays out key responsibilities for beginning team members, shift leaders, assistant store managers, kitchen managers, store managers, district managers and region directors.
“Casey’s introduced our team member value proposition this past year which brings clear focus to all the ways we are supporting our team members as they grow and develop within the company,” said Casey’s Vice President of Human Resources for Store Operations Nan Thomae said in the announcement. “This includes providing career growth opportunities, supporting well-being, living our values and being engaged at work.”
Labor has been and will continue to be a top challenge for c-store retailers. A recent study from NACS and the Coca-Cola Retailing Research Council found that low pay rates were by far the top reason c-store workers below the manager level left their jobs in 2023.
Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores operates more than 2,600 convenience stores in 16 states.
