Despite labor issues continuing to plague c-store operators, the industry managed to provide over 2.4 million jobs in the U.S. in 2022, according to NACS’ most recent compensation report.
With summer quickly approaching, retailers don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon on the labor front. Numerous operators are holding hiring events to keep their stores staffed and ready to serve customers in the coming months. While some companies are only looking to hire a couple hundred workers, others are hoping for up to 50,000.
Here’s how six c-store retailers are attracting employees for this summer and beyond.
7-Eleven
7-Eleven hopes to hire 50,000 employees across 13,000 locations in the U.S. and Canada during its annual hiring event on April 25. The Irving, Texas-based retailer has openings at Speedway, Stripes and 7-Eleven stores, as well as at certain franchise owned and operated locations. 7-Eleven also has corporate positions available in its information technology, maintenance and technology departments.
Prospective employees can apply at store locations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time or by visiting each banner’s website. Same-day interviews will be available for in-person, store-level applicants.
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores held its annual two-day hiring event March 28 and 29. In the announcement, it said it hoped to hire 2,000 employees across a range of store and service departments.
The event took place at Love’s stores, travel stops and truck service locations along with Speedco truck service spots across the U.S. The company also accepted in-person applicants for roles at its Love’s Contact Center in Oklahoma City, which provides customer service.
Wawa
In February, Wawa revealed its goal to hire around 1,500 employees for roles at its more than 60 locations in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Many of these roles are seasonal positions needed to support Wawa’s traction during the summertime, and recruiting for these positions will continue throughout the summer, the company said in a February announcement.
Parker’s Kitchens
Parker’s Kitchens will have held hiring events for eight individual stores throughout South Carolina and Georgia by the end of April. Each event lets applicants meet directly with Parker’s hiring team at their respective locations.
The events that have already occurred were on April 3 at Parker’s in Bluffton, South Carolina; April 6 in Savannah, Georgia; April 6 in Richmond Hill, Georgia; April 12 in Pooler, Georgia; April 13 in Beaufort, South Carolina; and April 18 in Summerville, South Carolina. Parker’s will hold four more hiring events: April 25 in Charleson, South Carolina; April 26 in Pooler; and April 27 in Savannah and Bluffton.
Terrible Herbst
West coast retailer Terrible Herbst Oil Co. will hold a c-store and car wash job fair on April 27 at its company employment center in Las Vegas. Terrible Herbst is hiring for hourly positions for up to $16 per hour, as well as salaried management positions. Applicants must apply online prior to the event.
Terrible Herbst is looking to hire 200 new employees from the hiring event, according to a report from KSNV News 3 Las Vegas.

On March 29, Sheetz held a hiring event for all of its stores in the greater Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, area, according to a report from WFMZ-TV 69News in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh-area stores had an event that same day, according to WPXI 11 TV. Overall, WPXI noted the company was looking to hire about 2,000 workers.
Each location held on-the-spot interviews from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day, and interested candidates were required to apply online before attending the event.
