7-Eleven is in the process of opening five new stores in Arizona, marking its first expansion in that state in a quarter century, the company announced on Tuesday.
Two sites, in the cities of Glendale and Surprise, are already open. One in Goodyear is expected to open on Wednesday, and the final two, both of which are in Phoenix, are slated to debut in the first half of 2025.
The Glendale and Surprise sites have been in the works for over three years, according to LinkedIn posts from a manager with De Rito Partners, which developed the properties.
All five locations are in the Phoenix metro area, which also includes many of the state’s existing 7-Elevens. Notable competitors in the area include Circle K and Jacksons Food Stores.
These openings are part of 7-Eleven’s strategic expansion plan, according to the announcement. The company announced in early October that it would be closing more than 400 underperforming stores. Roughly two weeks later, it revealed in an investor presentation that it would also be opening around 600 stores using a new, larger, food-focused design. These moves come as 7-Eleven looks to rebound from a tough financial year in the U.S.
It was not immediately clear if these new Arizona locations will use the new design.
