Dive Brief:
- 7-Eleven Inc. is offering a new Korean BBQ flavor of boneless chicken wings, coated in a soy, garlic and pepper glaze sauce, for a limited-time-only and at select locations, according to a Tuesday press release.
- The convenience retailer also sweetened the pot for loyalty members, with 7Rewards participants eligible to purchase eight of the boneless wings for $3 through Jan. 9, 2024.
- This marks the latest in a recent series of LTOs from 7-Eleven, which allow the retailer to experiment with new offerings without the long-term commitment.
Dive Insight:
In addition to the chicken wings, 7-Eleven also has three limited-time Slurpee flavors available right now. In addition to food and drink, it also includes seasonal goodies in its merchandise store, including items for the winter holidays and for its birthday.
“At 7-Eleven, we are always trying to expand our menu with unique flavors,” said Vareesha Shariff, 7-Eleven's senior director of hot food.
7-Eleven isn’t the only company using these short-time offers to draw customers in.
Rutters introduced a new rotating menu in March that brought three fresh items to its made-to-order menu at a time. The limited-time menu debuted with a peanut butter burger, loaded potato pizza and pulled pork fries, and switched over to chicken and waffles, a donut-based breakfast sandwich and grilled mac & cheese in June.
The limited-time options were part of what Rutter’s called a “menu rationalization,” where underperforming items were removed and other offerings, including the limited-time menu, were rotated in.
“They have done very well and have gotten a lot of buzz on social media,” Chad White, foodservice category manager for York, Pennsylvania-based Rutter’s, said in an earlier interview.
Stewart’s Shops also revealed several new limited-time ice cream flavors in June, including Strawberry Sunrise Sherbet, Brownie Points, Peanut Butter Pie, Very Berry Shortcake and Daily Grind.
Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven Inc. owns, licenses or franchises about 13,000 locations in North America, and its loyalty program has more than 50 million members.
